My Tango Shoes: Finding the Perfect Pair for Your Feet

One of the questions I receive most often is:

"What tango shoes do you recommend?"

My answer is always the same:

I don't recommend one shoe—I recommend finding your shoe.

Every foot is different. Every dancer is different. What feels like heaven for one person can be painful for another.

Finding the right tango shoes is a journey of patience, curiosity, and experience.

There Is No Universal "Best" Shoe

Over the years, I have tried many different brands, heel heights, and models.

I've danced in:

  • open heel and closed heel shoes

  • open toe and closed toe designs

  • different strap placements

  • different leather types

  • different heel heights

Each pair taught me something about my feet.

Little by little, I began to understand what my body truly needed.

I Know Exactly What I Like

Some people enjoy trying a new shoe every few months.

I'm the opposite.

Maybe I'm a little boring. 😊

When I find a model that truly fits my feet, I stay loyal to it.

Instead of buying different styles, I simply buy the same model in different colors.

For me, consistency matters more than variety.

The details I personally prefer are:

  • Open heel

  • Thin straps across the ankle

  • A simple, elegant design

  • Soft leather

  • A stable fit that keeps my foot secure

These small details make a huge difference after several hours on the dance floor.

The Shoes I Choose Today

About seven years ago, I discovered Mono Tango Shoes, and I still remember the very first moment I slipped my feet into them. I didn't spend weeks breaking them in or wondering if they would be comfortable. I put them on and went straight to perform.

It was love at first touch.

The leather felt incredibly soft, gently wrapping around my feet without creating pressure points. The shoes offered just the right amount of cushioning under the ball of my foot—enough to protect me from pain during long hours of dancing, while still allowing me to feel the floor beneath me. That connection with the floor is essential in tango. I never want shoes that separate me from it; I want shoes that support me while preserving that beautiful sensitivity.

Another reason I continue to choose Mono Tango Shoes is their exceptional craftsmanship. Every pair feels thoughtfully made, durable, elegant, and reliable—even after countless hours on the dance floor.

One of my favorite details is the ability to personalize your shoes. You can choose your heel height, colors, materials, and design details, creating something that truly reflects your personality. Whether you love bold, eye-catching combinations or timeless classic elegance, the choice is yours. They can even add your initials alongside their logo, making each pair uniquely your own.

For me, tango shoes are much more than beautiful accessories. They are the foundation that allows me to dance comfortably, confidently, and expressively.

Today, my choice is Mono Tango Shoes because they have helped save my feet from unnecessary pain while giving them beauty, elegance, and the freedom to dance exactly the way I want.

After thousands of hours on the dance floor, I know one thing for certain: when your feet are happy, your tango changes. And that's a feeling worth investing in

Heel Height Matters

My favorite heel height is 10 cm (4 inches).

It allows me to feel elegant, feminine, and connected with my movement.

However, I don't dance in only one heel height.

Sometimes I switch to 7 cm heels, especially during long festivals or marathon weekends.

Changing heel height isn't a compromise.

It's actually one of the healthiest habits you can develop.

My Secret for Long Milonga Nights

People often ask me:

"How do you dance until four or five in the morning?"

One of my secrets is very simple.

I never bring only one pair of shoes.

Whenever I travel to festivals or marathons, I pack:

  • few pairs of higher heels

  • few pairs of lower heels

  • few pairs of practice shoes

During the evening, I switch between them.

When I begin dancing, I usually wear my higher heels.

As my feet become more tired, I change to lower heels.

Later, if necessary, I switch to practice shoes.

Every time you change heel height, your feet redistribute the pressure differently.

Different muscles begin working.

Different parts of the foot receive relief.

Instead of forcing the same muscles to work for eight hours, you're allowing your feet to recover while you continue enjoying the dance.

It is one of the healthiest habits I can recommend.

Don't Be Afraid of Practice Shoes

Some dancers ask me,

"Why would you wear practice shoes at a milonga?"

My answer is simple.

Because I want to keep dancing.

Practice shoes don't mean lower quality dancing.

They simply require a slightly different body organization.

When dancing in practice shoes, don't stay permanently on the balls of your feet as you would in higher heels.

Instead, allow yourself to become even more grounded.

As you walk forward, use your heel naturally.

Roll through the foot.

Allow the entire foot to participate in the movement.

There are moments when dancing higher on the balls of the feet is necessary.

For example:

  • when your partner is significantly taller than you

  • when the music becomes faster and requires quicker reactions

  • when certain technical movements demand more elevation

But that's a conversation about technique.

The important point here is that your shoes should support your dancing—not force your body into unnecessary tension.

Give Yourself Time

Finding your perfect tango shoes doesn't happen overnight.

Try different brands.

Experiment with different heel heights.

Notice how open heels feel compared to closed heels.

Pay attention to leather softness.

Observe how your feet feel after one tanda... then after five hours.

Eventually, your feet will tell you exactly what they need.

Listen to them.

Final Thoughts

Your tango shoes are not just beautiful accessories.

They are your connection to the floor.

They influence your balance, your posture, your comfort, and even your confidence.

Don't choose shoes because someone else loves them.

Choose the shoes that make your body feel free.

Because when your feet are happy...

your entire dance changes.

Looking Ahead...

As much as I love sharing the brands that have supported my journey, I also believe that every dancer continues to evolve.

For years, I've been listening carefully—to my own feet, to my students, and to dancers around the world. Every lesson, every performance, and every conversation has taught me something new about what a tango shoe should truly offer.

That is why I'm especially excited about what lies ahead.

In 2027, I hope to introduce something very close to my heart—a new vision inspired by everything I have learned throughout my professional career. A vision created with dancers in mind, where elegance, comfort, functionality, and individuality exist in perfect harmony.

For now, it's still a beautiful work in progress. But I can't wait to share this new chapter with the tango world when the time is right.

Until then, I'll continue dancing, teaching, learning, and sharing the products that I genuinely believe help dancers feel their very best.

Because every great dance begins with happy feet.
